The park, briefly

The Serpentine runs through the middle, with boats for hire in summer and the Lido on its southern shore. Serpentine South Gallery sits on the Kensington Gardens side, and each summer a leading architect builds a temporary pavilion beside it. Rotten Row, the old sand riding track, runs along the south of the park. The formal fountain gardens lie at the Lancaster Gate end, and Speakers' Corner holds the north east. From late November, Winter Wonderland fills the Hyde Park Corner end with lights; in July, the big summer concerts take over the same lawns.

Before the gates close, a walk along the Serpentine at dusk is one of the simplest good starts to an evening anywhere in the city.

Hotels on every side of the park

North: the Royal Lancaster London at Lancaster Gate, a tall block whose upper floors look down the length of the park. East: the Park Lane row, from Grosvenor House down past The Dorchester to the Four Seasons, covered in detail on the Park Lane page. South east: The Lanesborough at Hyde Park Corner, a Regency building with butler service for every room and the Library Bar, all leather armchairs and old cognac. South: Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in Knightsbridge, whose rear rooms look straight onto the park, with The Aubrey for a late drink.

The list is of addresses, not associates. No hotel around the park has an arrangement with the house, and a companion arrives at each exactly as any invited visitor would.

Stations around the perimeter

Lancaster Gate, Central line, is about 2 minutes from the Royal Lancaster and the northern gates. Marble Arch, also Central line, is roughly 3 minutes from Speakers' Corner. From The Lanesborough and the Four Seasons, the Piccadilly line at Hyde Park Corner is about 3 minutes away. Knightsbridge, Piccadilly line, is around 5 minutes from the Mandarin Oriental. Each is in Zone 1, so travel is included whichever side your hotel faces.

Arrival and the paperwork

From written confirmation, a companion usually reaches a hotel on any side of the park in 30 to 45 minutes. The request is four facts: date, time, duration, hotel. The reply is two: the companion and the figure. Before she leaves, the house confirms your full name and room number on WhatsApp.

A standard evening is confirmed by a 25 percent deposit, paid by bank transfer. An overnight in a park view room, ten hours at £1,800, is confirmed by 50 percent, the travel component non refundable. Cancelling three or more hours ahead costs nothing.

Hotels on the Bayswater side sit in W2, those at Hyde Park Corner in SW1X or W1J, and the Park Lane row in W1K. None of that changes the figure or the arrival window. What matters is the name of the hotel, the name on the booking and the number on the door.

Who books a park view

Guests who paid for the view and want to share it. Visitors in London for the summer concerts or the winter fair, who book once the crowds have gone home. Runners and riders staying at the Royal Lancaster who want a slow dinner after a long morning in the park. And guests at The Lanesborough or the Mandarin Oriental on longer stays, who ask for the same companion twice, a request the house is always glad to receive.

A park evening, in sequence

18:30, meet at the eastern end of the Serpentine as the light starts to go. 19:00, a slow walk along the southern shore towards the Lido. 19:45, a taxi from the park gate to the Library Bar at The Lanesborough for one drink, then dinner nearby. 22:30, back to the room with the park dark beyond the glass. Four hours; the dinner date at £900.

Companions on each side of the park

No companion lists Hyde Park as her home district, but three home districts touch it. From Paddington, on the northern side, Laura rides horses for pleasure and likes a room with a view over the trees, and Vanessa, calm and curious, is one of the easiest first bookings on the account. From Knightsbridge, on the southern side, Bianka enjoys wine and a slow evening, and Sonya is at her best between five and ten.
