Services: ten formats, one ladder of figures

Every evening the house arranges is written as one of ten formats. The format settles the length, the deposit and how much preparation goes in beforehand, and it settles nothing else. The figures themselves never move between formats: a dinner, a hotel visit and a night out of equal length read identically on the rates page, from £250 for one hour to £1,800 for ten. Fees are for time and companionship only, in every format listed below.

Most first bookings are a hotel visit or an evening with a dinner companion, and both usually begin inside W1: a suite at Claridge's, a table on Mount Street, an apartment above Grosvenor Square. The longer formats, an overnight, a trip with a travel companion or a weekend, are written further ahead and held with the larger deposit.

How to read each format

Every format page states its usual length, the line it takes on the statement, the deposit that holds it and a short list of companions whose diaries and temperament suit it. Those names are a suggestion, never a limit. Anyone in the portfolio may be asked for any format, and the reply says plainly whether her diary allows it. If an evening falls between two formats, a dinner that becomes a night out, for instance, write it as the longer of the two and the reply sets out how each hour is counted.

Which deposit applies

Hotel visits, dinners, nights out, evenings for couples and bookings for two companions are standard bookings, held with 25 percent by bank transfer. Overnights, client dinners and receptions, travel and extended stays are held with half the fee in advance, of which the travel component cannot be refunded. Whatever remains is paid in cash on arrival, or beforehand by transfer.

Where the formats begin

Every format can start at any address in the twelve zones the account serves, from Park Lane across to St James's, and each figure already covers travel within Zones 1 and 2. Further out, the taxi both ways is quoted in the first reply. Replies arrive in 10 to 15 minutes whatever the hour, and the booking page lists every step between your first line and her arrival.

No format carries a priced extra, and no format has a private set of figures. A request that reaches beyond time and companionship is declined once, politely, and the conversation moves on.
